Margin call game

It is 11:47 p.m. and you are the only person left on the 61st floor.
Kestrel & Vance is a private bank, discreet and old and very good at what it does, and you are an associate in Private Client Risk, which means you reconcile bond portfolios at midnight and nobody asks your opinion about anything. Tonight the reconciliation is wrong by four cents. You are still hunting it when the risk terminal makes a sound you have only ever heard in training.
Two hundred fourteen client accounts. Three hundred ten million dollars. Stocks, bond ladders, college savings, retirement annuities, all of it queued to be sold at market and wired somewhere it will never come back from. Execution at 01:00, when the custodian's window closes and theft quietly becomes an instruction lawfully given.
The desk phone is dead. The cameras are dark. The officer who authorized the sweep is still somewhere in the building, sixty floors above Park Avenue, and he is not in a hurry.
You have seventy-three minutes, a corporate credit card, and no authority whatsoever.
Ten right moves will save the accounts. Thirty-two wrong ones are waiting. The hardest choice is the one that looks obvious.
